WHO WE ARE
Lanna
Theological Center is a private, Christian, coeducational center of theology
and church leadership with selected professional programs. The campus is
located in San Sai District, Chiang Mai, Thailand. Chiang Mai is the “second
city” of Thailand and is quickly becoming an important economic center for
South East Asia. Lanna Theological Center is thus strategically located to
serve the churches of Thailand and surrounding countries.
LCC is located on a one-half acre campus with three academic and
residential buildings. Additional academic and residential buildings are
rental properties located in the community. Most of the students at Lanna
Theological Center come from the eight northern provinces of Thailand. Ten
different language groups and one foreign country are represented in the
current student body of approximately 65. Working with the students are a
faculty and staff whose primary concern is to enhance student learning.
 HISTORY
Lanna Theological Center was founded in May 2003. It is the successor to two
earlier Christian Churches/churches of Christ supported schools, the Chiang
Mai Bible Institute (established 1975) and the Center for Biblical Studies
(established 1983). Both schools were established to meet diverse linguistic
and cultural needs in the churches of North Thailand. In the late 1990s,
however, it became apparent that social changes in Thai society (and indeed
all of South East Asia) was forcing both schools to implement new strategies
for theological training. The boards of South East Asia Christian Services
and the Youth Development Foundation began talking about how both schools
could work together to better serve the Asian churches. These talks resulted
in the merger of both schools into Lanna Theological Center. A new board of directors with representatives from the South East Asia Christian
Services, the Youth Development Foundation of Chiang Mai, Christian Mission
to the Orient, and other missionary and national church leaders was
established to have direct oversight of the new center.
BELIEFS AND
VALUES
The foundation for LTC's mission and its operational policies is a
shared set of beliefs and values that reflect its
Independent Christian
Church/Churches of Christ heritage. LTC’s doctrinal statement
provides the guiding principles for maintaining the Center’s Christian
identity. Lanna Theological Center strives to maintain a Christian
environment consistent with its
doctrinal statement. Therefore the college mandates that faculty and staff
agree to the college statement of faith. Because LTC attracts
students from a variety of denominations, the presence of dedicated
Christian faculty and staff members affirms and provides models for students
from other faith traditions.
As an
institution of higher education, LTC affirms that all truth is from
God and that authentic learning takes place when truth is pursued and
understood based on God’s revelation found in the Bible. The Center thus
seeks to create a community of learning and inquiry committed to the
challenging task of integrating faith and learning.
Lanna
Theological Center deeply values its relationship with the Independent
Christian Churches/ Churches of Christ, whose generosity allows LTC
to offer quality theological education at an affordable cost to its
students. In recognition of these substantial resources, the Center seeks
to prepare students who are entering church-related vocations, as well as
those who will become active lay persons, to assume leadership roles in
churches and in all aspects of life. This partnership between Lanna
Theological Center and the Independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ
constitutes one of the major strengths of the Center.
