What is LIFE?
The LANNA INSTITUTE FOR ENGLISH, A Program initiated by the Christian Mission to the Orient in cooperation with LANNA Theological CENTER to teach English in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Two main objectives

  1. To equip people in English for the new world of Globalization

  2. To show that Jesus Christ, through us, cares and has a plan for them in this modern world

How Can I Help?

  • By being a native speaker of English and friend for the Thai listener in the classroom, church and
    home

Where Would I Serve? (Take Your Choice)

  • In Elementary, Middle and High School classrooms

  • In Christian Center teaching students and faculty

  • With Government Officials and Public School teachers helping them to improve their English

Will Resources Be Available?

  • Yes, curriculum is provided for all levels of instruction

  • Program supervised by Carmen Filbeck, M.A, experienced teacher with ESL certification.

How Long Would I Serve?

  • Normally a school year of two terms (one term option available)

  • The Thai school year begins in May and ends in March

  • One month off in October for site seeing and visiting outlying mission works

  • Extension to a second year or longer available

What About My Finances?

  • You may transfer funds (Social Security, pension) from your stateside bank account

    • By personal check (up to 6 weeks for clearance)

    • By ATM card direct from your bank (no wait with minimal fee)

    • By wire transfer (expensive)

What Are The Living Conditions In Chiang Mai?

  • Reasonable rent with plenty of housing options available

  • Food is plentiful and inexpensive including American fast food, buffets, upscale restaurants and coffee shops

  • Hospitals are adequate and equipped with the latest technology

  • Doctors are trained according to American standards with board certified specialists

  • Medicine and Doctor’s fees are much less expensive

  • Public transportation is excellent and inexpensive both locally and nationwide

What To Bring?

  • Laptop computer (dial-up and broadband internet available)

  • Clothing for tropical weather

  • Jacket and long sleeve shirt/blouses for cool weather

  • All personal items and amenities can be purchased in Thailand
