LANNA CHRISTIAN CENTER NEWS - Summer 2006 North American Christian Convention Dr. David Filbeck, president of Lanna Christian Center will be attending the North American Christian Convention June 27-30 in Louisville, KY. You are invited to stop by the LCC booth, #2127 to visit with David.
The
new school year began May 15, 2006. Lanna Christian Center follows the Thai
school calendar which runs may through March. LCC welcomes 9 incoming
freshmen. Six are from Laos. Total enrollment for the first semester is 72
students. Fifty six are enrolled in the BTH program. Five are enrolled in
the English program. Eleven are completing their internships and will
graduate in September, 2006. The incoming freshman class was initiated into the LCC family on June 3. The upper class students lead the new students through a series of difficult tasks symbolizing the cross that each must carry in serving the Lord. At the end the older students wash the feet of the younger students. The final event of the day is a worship service. LCC president, Dr. David Filbeck, gave an inspirational devotion on taking advantage of the opportunities God gives each of us.
New
Churches
Lanna Christian Center in cooperation with Light of San Sai Church is working to establish new churches in Mae Fat and Mae Rim districts. The leadership of the Light of San Sai Church chose these two districts suitable areas for new church plants. They asked LCC to help open doors into these two communities through the Lanna Institute for English, (LIFE) Program. Faculty and students of the LIFE program have been teaching English in these two districts for the past year. The result has been the opening of doors to the gospel. A new church began meeting in Mae Rim in January, 2006. in April 2006 regular worship services began in Mae fat. Recently the LIFE program received the full endorsement of the community leaders in Mae Rim to expand our program into the community. LCC Evangelistic Team Reports LCC sent out 6 evangelistic teams during the end of the year week of evangelism. These 6 teams collectively visited 3 Karen towns; 4 Lisu villages; Mae Hong Son Lahu villages; held a youth camp encounter in Pua, Nan; 3 Laotian towns; and in the tsunami devastated village of Tap Tawan. Many reported enthusiastic responses to the teaching, preaching and encouragement they brought. Here are some highlights:
At the Lua Youth Camp encounter in Pua, Nan the team learned the
night before camp that the main speakers were not able to come. This was an
unexpected curve ball. The team did a great job of regrouping and meeting
the leadership challenge. In the end, God blessed the camp and also changed
hearts. The LCC students learned that God supplies all we need to fulfill
His call to service. They learned that they could go forth with
