2006-2007 School Year

The new school year began May 15, 2006. Lanna Christian Center follows the Thai school calendar which runs may through March. LCC welcomes 9 incoming freshmen. Six are from Laos. Total enrollment for the first semester is 72 students. Fifty six are enrolled in the BTH program. Five are enrolled in the English program. Eleven are completing their internships and will graduate in September, 2006.

The incoming freshman class was initiated into the LCC family on June 3. The upper class students lead the new students through a series of difficult tasks symbolizing the cross that each must carry in serving the Lord. At the end the older students wash the feet of the younger students. The final event of the day is a worship service. LCC president, Dr. David Filbeck, gave an inspirational devotion on taking advantage of the opportunities God gives each of us.

New Churches

Lanna Christian Center in cooperation with Light of San Sai Church is working to establish new churches in Mae Fat and Mae Rim districts. The leadership of the Light of San Sai Church chose these two districts suitable areas for new church plants. They asked LCC to help open doors into these two communities through the Lanna Institute for English, (LIFE) Program. Faculty and students of the LIFE program have been teaching English in these two districts for the past year. The result has been the opening of doors to the gospel. A new church began meeting in Mae Rim in January, 2006. in April 2006 regular worship services began in Mae fat. Recently the LIFE program received the full endorsement of the community leaders in Mae Rim to expand our program into the community.

LCC Evangelistic Team Reports

LCC sent out 6 evangelistic teams during the end of the year week of evangelism. These 6 teams collectively visited 3 Karen towns; 4 Lisu villages; Mae Hong Son Lahu villages; held a youth camp encounter in Pua, Nan; 3 Laotian towns; and in the tsunami devastated village of Tap Tawan. Many reported enthusiastic responses to the teaching, preaching and encouragement they brought. Here are some highlights:

At the Lua Youth Camp encounter in Pua, Nan the team learned the night before camp that the main speakers were not able to come. This was an unexpected curve ball. The team did a great job of regrouping and meeting the leadership challenge. In the end, God blessed the camp and also changed hearts. The LCC students learned that God supplies all we need to fulfill His call to service. They learned that they could go forth with confidence, and that all problems are truly just opportunities to see God work! By the second day the children were already asking about next camp next year. The showed great enthusiasm to sing, and study, and fellowship together. The team members were able to have conversations regarding the difference between evil spirits and God. Specifically the power of God over the spirits. They were able to challenge the children to pray for God’s protection instead of appeasing the demons with sacrifices. There were conversations about what it means to become a Christian. Bibles were given to each camper. It was great to see the LCC students catching the vision to teach the next generation!

The team to the Khao Lak region in southern Thailand had a great trip. The team painted houses in the mornings, led children’s Bible stories in the afternoons, and visited with parents of the children in the evenings. Five people made initial decisions to accept Christ, but have not yet made the decision to be baptized. This evangelistic trip was follow-up to some of the Tsunami relief work that has gone on over the last year. Many people are still haunted by fear and unable to sleep. The team spent a great deal of time praying with and for the people of Tap Tawan and Nam Khem villages. LCC hopes to continue to send teams to this area to further teach and lead those open to the Gospel. The people are hungry to know the Lord!

14 Lao students from LCC traveled to the central Lao province of Bolikansai to encourage the Christians living in that area. Activities included preaching, teaching, visitations. Services were held morning and evening for all ages. The team had planned to stay in the first village for 3 days, but on the 2nd day the authorities told the team to leave. They moved to another village about 100 km away where they did not experience any problems with the authorities. We are thanking God for their safety and dedication to Christ.
