David Filbeck to Attend National Missionary Convention David Filbeck, president of Lanna Christian Center will attend the 2006 National Missionary Convention in Indianapolis Indiana, November 16-19. If you are attending the convention, drop by the LCC booth (#1028-1030) and find out the latest news. David is also presenting a workshop on “Teaching at an International Christian College”. The Workshop is scheduled for Friday, November 17th from 2-3 pm.
New Center for Transformational Leadership Lanna Christian Center in joint cooperation with Extend International has opened the Center for Transformational Leadership (CTL). The purpose of CTL is to provide alternative leadership training for church pastors, leaders and lay leaders (in country and out) who are unable to pursue a traditional education or who wish to improve their leadership skills. CTL will also provide leadership training for missionaries and Christian business personnel conducting business in creative access countries. Mr. Joel Lillie, foreign director for Extend International, will serve at the center’s first director. Joel gradated from East Tennessee State University (BS in Social Work - '82), the University of Missouri (MS in Community Development - '93) and Columbia Biblical Seminary & School of World Missions (Columbia International University) (Master of Divinity - '05). Joel lived in Thailand since 1984 and has engaged in pioneer evangelism, Bible teaching, leadership training and Christian community development training in Thailand and surrounding countries
One of our long term goals is to enroll students from other Asian Countries. LCC already has students from Laos. In July we were blessed with a student from China. Simon enrolled in the LIFE program at LCC. His sponsor stated there are others ready to come. We are continually amazed at how God opens doors to impact Asia for Christ.
This new degree plan combines courses in Bible and English with experiences in practical ministries. Ten students have volunteered to be in the pilot program. All ten have a heart for evangelism. Students, faculty, and local leaders are excited about the potential for this program. Lord willing, we will officially open this new degree next school year. Carmen Filbeck, LIFE Director, is responsible for getting curriculum ready for registration with the Department of Education. The purpose for the new program is to prepare national leaders who can use English to reach into new communities. English is in high demand across the region. There are so many stories of how the teaching of English has opened doors into un-reached communities. Part of student’s course work is to help teach children in our English Outreach programs. This summer, LIFE students partnered with five Interns from the USA and taught over 150 kids in local school and weekend programs.
Land Paid
Off! David Filbeck, LCC president, made the final payment of the new property September 12, 2006. Last year LCC purchased about 5 acres of property for the new campus. At the time of purchase we were $24,000 short of the asking price. Mrs. Siripan, the owner, was gracious and transferred the property into the Foundation’s name on our promise to pay off the balance by October 2006. At the time David told the owner that he didn’t know where the money was going to come from, but that he was confident God would provide the funds. God is faithful. We were able to pay off the balance a month ahead of schedule. Now we must raise funds for construction. For more information on how you can help with building our new campus contact David at president@lannachristiancenter.com
Student/Faculty Retreat We were blessed to have Duane Crumb and Holly Moulder from HIV Hope/New Missions Systems International come and share with the LCC students during our annual student-faculty retreat week. The theme was developing culturally relevant methods for HIV education, prevention, and ministry. Many thanks to Duane Crumb and Holly Moulder for making this a great retreat!
