LANNA CHRISTIAN CENTER NEWS
December - 2005
Land
Purchased
Report by David Filbeck, President
Lanna
Christian Center recently acquired 5 tracts of land totaling 5 acres for a
new campus. This will allow LCC to expand programs to include English and
Computer training, a Leadership Training Institute, and a Graduate School.
The new campus will also allow LCC to increase student enrollment from 65 to
150 students.
The
total cost for the property is 6,400,000 baht ($160,000). LCC paid 5,100,000
baht ($127,500) for four tracts totaling 4 acres. The owner, Mrs. Siripan
Krittatam, was willing to transfer the deeds to all five tracts to LCC on a
promise to pay the remaining $32,500 by October 31, 2006. This is unheard of
in Thailand. As we left the Land Title Office, Mrs. Krittatam and her son
Mr. Nui Krittatam, turned to me and said “Our family is not in favor of us
doing this, but we are trusting you.” I told Mr. Krittatam that I didn’t
know where the funds would come from, but I am trusting God and I am
confident he and his mother will see the power of God to provide what we
need.
Mrs.
Krittatam and her son are not Christian. They are willing to put their trust
in us because Christians have a reputation for keeping their word. Mrs.
Krittatam is trusting us to pay her the remaining $32,500. We are trusting
you to help us keep that promise. We are trusting you to help us be a
witness to the power of God
As we
said good-bye I asked if Mrs. Krittatam and her son would allow me to pray
for them. Right there, in the front yard of the government land title
office, we bowed our heads and I asked God’s blessing upon them and their
families. Join us in prayer for this family.
Building
Bridges for L.I.F.E.
The Lanna Institute
for English
Report by Carmen Filbeck
L.I.F.E. is a new ministry associated with Lanna Christian Center. LIFE is
designed to meet the growing opportunity and demand for English instruction
throughout Thailand and provide courses that will help students living in an
urban global society.
L.I.F.E. is an extension of the ministry started last year known simply as
the English House. The name change reflects our goal to broaden our scope of
influence beyond LCC into the wider community. The English House ran several
pilot programs with the help of 9 interns. Below is a report of the pilot
programs and how God used them to share His presence.
The
English Program at LCC
Interns, Rachel Jett from Johnson Bible College, and Mellissa Northcup from
Central Christian College, took active rolls in teaching, mentoring and
encouraging the students of LCC. A highlight of the internships was the
evenings spent on the front porch singing and praying with LCC students. The
LCC students say having the interns on campus was a huge encouragement to
their faith as they experienced first-hand the bond of fellowship in Jesus
Christ across language and culture.
Light of San Sai Christian Church
The L.I.F.E. program also had interns working in conjunction with the Light
of San Sai Christian Church. This is a new church work established by LCC
professor Mr. Boonlert. The church is just a few miles from LCC. Team
Expansion provided us with 5 interns. They were able to make a big impact in
the lives of the students and teachers. Building bridges with them and the
church members. Expanding the contact and impact level of the local church.
Many people in San Sai now know there is a Church in San Sai.
New Opportunity
Beginning in November, L.I.F.E. has the unique opportunity to teach 27
prison wardens at the Chiang Mai Women’s Prison. The prison is seeing more
and more foreigners as inmates. In addition, the prison runs several
businesses which are frequented by tourists. The wardens realize they need
to improve their English in order to effectively deal with the inmates,
their families and tourists.
Please
pray with us as L.I.F.E., LCC and local church members interact in the lives
of these wardens and as we build lasting bridges for Christ.
Workers Needed
L.I.F.E. anticipates more opportunities like the ones reported above. We
need workers who will join us in sharing the love of Jesus through teaching
English. If you are a teacher with summers off, a college student, or
retired, we welcome you. Come for the summer, or stay for a year! We have an
urgent need for workers who could help with the Children’s and Youth English
programs. We have the curriculum and the contacts--we need you!
